Description:
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp.
How long do the results last?
Most male pattern hair loss and female pattern hair loss who respond to PRP hair restoration treatment can expect results to last for an average of 18 months, but some patients report having theirs last for 2 years.
What does it treat?
Most patients will experience a natural thickening and regrowth of hair in the weeks following the procedure, though the peak of collagen production typically occurs approximately three months after the injections.
What to expect during my treatment?
RN will draw the patients blood following strict protocol. The blood is then spun down in our 2 part pure spin centrifuge leaving only the platelet rich plasma. The nurse then injects the PRP in the desired area and microneedles the remaining PRP.
Is there anything to avoid pretreatment?
The week before your treatment: Do not take any ibuprofen, aspirin, or NSAIDs. Discontinue use of any anticoagulant medications if primary care physician allowes. Discontinue herbs, supplements, or vitamins associated with blood thinning. Ask your doctor if you have concerns about any specific medications or supplements you take.
What is the downtime?
Based on the exact treatment you have, your recovery time could be different person to person. Some dependent factors are your age, the condition of your skin, amount of hair loss, and how well you respond to the treatment. The majority of patients who have PRP for hair loss recover within 2 weeks. Slight bruising, tenderness and swelling are expected. Cold gel packs/ice may be applied immediately after treatment to reduce swelling. The use of arnica gel is recommended for any bruising or swelling post treatment.
What are the post treatment care instructions?
Things to avoid after your PRP treatment: saunas, steam rooms, swimming for 2 days after your treatment. Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for at least 2 days after your treatment, Avoid scrubbing the injection sites for at least 24 hours, For the first 3 days, use shampoo that is pH balanced. Do not use any hair products for at least 6 hours after your treatment. Be sure to take a hot shower and wash your hair that evening, after the treatment, to promote the effects of PRP.
How often do you recommend treatment?
This treatment is done in a series of four. The first three treatments are done one month apart with the fourth following three months later. To maintain the therapy results, patients are recommended to go for single effective sessions every 4-6 months.
